So I’ve been doing 18 (9 of which are 400-level) credits and work and have done little work on the translation. I’m not abandoning it, but I *AM* officially opening it up to help. If you are interested, email me at nimuetranslations@gmail.com because I simply do not have the time that project deserves anymore. I have a pretty basic test that I wrote up for another project I worked on that I will give to you to make sure you can handle the translation work, but it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. My social life and school, unfortunately for my wonderful Shinsengumi friends, takes priority. Not that I don’t have ANY time, but when I realised I’d be taking 20 credits plus work next semester… I sort of came to the conclusion that I’d need some help, you know? Your name would be put on the credits alongside of mine and I’m considering changing the name of the translation group since I would no longer be the only one translating. I’m sorry for the lack of work guys! I’ve been feeling guilty reading your comments of support when I really haven’t done much ;_;.
Also, on a side note, a LOT of people have been asking about emulator stuff recently. I’ve answered a ton of emails about this, so I’ll just post it here. Desmume is really the one I use for testing. It tends to work really well!
I’m so relieved to know that this project is still alive! ^^ I know this was originally a personal project, so I’m glad you have opened up help so the rest of us can enjoy playing the game sooner. Unfortunately, I cannot be of any help since I never got past Japanese 102 due to conflicting schedules, but I’m sure there are plenty out there who are willing to help you. I’ve been following this project for a while now, and I will continue to do so. I’m excited! Please keep up the good work. ^^ I can’t wait to play Hakuouki~
Aww we understand.
I want to help but I would only be able to help with the grammar and editing but I don’t know any japanese myself >A< Really sorry-!!
I’d love to see this translation project complete. Don’t give up. By the way, could you give me an estimate on how close this project is to complete. (The percentage, possibly)
The most I could do is translate to romaji.
There was someone that volunteered to help a few months ago. I hope you have tried to contact her. http://nimuetranslations.forum-motion.com/t33-i-d-love-to-help
I wish I could help bt my Jap grammar is pretty bad…n my kanji ain’t strong, esp when Hakuouki uses very complex language
My standard is lik Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side…Hakuouki is a bit too tough for me, can only grasp e general meaning n not sentence by sentence
;_; oh god, I wish I could help. So so badly. But unfortunately I have no time…. T_T I’m glad to see you’re still here and this project is still alive!!! I’m glad that you’re opening this project up to other translators, I’m sure it’ll help take stress off!! Good luck on classes~~ I’ve tests coming up at my uni this week, unfortunately, so I know that those can get stressful!!
but you’ll get through it~ can’t wait to see more updates!!
OMG!! I’m very happy that this project is still alive. Thank you so much. I don’t know japanese so much so i can’t help you in the translation part. I’m graphic designer so i maybe help you with the layout or something.
HI, I’m a Japanese man who is 50 years old and loves Bakumatsu heroes, especially Ryoma Sakamoto and of course Shinsengumi.;-)
My daughter loves to play Hakuouki and now I also love it!
I sympathize with your project, but I’m not sure to help you as I’ll be busy from the next week.
Anyway, check your mailer ’cause I’ve sent you my existing translations of Hakuouki’s two songs.
Then, tell me how to upload!
I am actually very fluent in Japanese (mainly because I am part) but I doubt I would be able to help being extremely busy with school X( . I do hope someone does though
Hey ^^ Sensei!
So will you be making the gbatemp thread soon?
There’s already one made.
ChocoApe: Any machine translator is… bad O_O
Nimue: Have you tried asking Japanese penpals/friends to help out?
big mouth translator….
Cant wait till its finished ~
I’m sorry, I’m not familiar with Japanese characters at all. >__< I will, however, try to get some of my friends to help you with this. Can't wait till it comes out!
what percentage are you at in completeness anyway?
I really hope you’ve found someone to help you, and that this project is still alive.
Good luck of your tests naturally, but that’s probably coming a bit late haha
Askys has been planned to translate it.
so no use you want to translate it anymore.
yeah!
No, there still is a reason to translate. Aksys is only localizing the PSP version.
Hey Pluupy! Thanks for being a long-time supporter. I think at this point I’ll offer my help to Aksys and stop my translation of this particular game. The sheer amount of text was WAY too much for a single girl doing it in her spare time. I’m taking this as a learning experience more than anything else though and I fully intend on continuing translation. Maybe even another otome game (Arabians Lost?) or perhaps SaGa 3. It seems a bit silly to exert the extreme amount of effort that this translation demands (the Japanese used is very complicated and is geared at a more sophisticated audience than your Tokimeki Memorial or Arabian’s Lost otome) when someone else is doing it already. It seems a bit better to spend my time and energy on something different.
What I WILL do is release melete’s code so that if anyone WANTS to translate the game, it’ll be available. I’ll be making a formal announcement soon once I decide where I want to go.
DON’T YOU EVER CLAIM SAGA 3!
YOU WILL NEVER FINISHED IT. IT WILL BE THE SAME WITH WHAT YOU DO WITH HAKUOKI.
and about melete’s code, he even said that he don’t mind sharing it. it’s open source.don’t act if you have control on that.
and if you know about how the text it WAY so much for you, why you still want to translate it in the first place?
ooh, sorry. i forget you are just a FAME SUCKER.
Fanlaters don’t claim. They translate. So, and do try to keep up with me here, if I work on it – other groups can too.
Also, let’s think here too if we aren’t alread too overexerted. Over 60,000 lines of Japanese written at a high-school/college level or probably several thousand written at an elementary/middle-school level (I’ve played through most of SaGa 3 without having to resort to a dictionary too often). Which do you think I’m more likely to complete?
On that note, I wasn’t trying to claim melete’s code. It’s already on github for god’s sake and, I believe, I said it was his code in my comment. Giving people links to a compiled version and to his github code will help spread his work to other people. I wouldn’t dream of withholding his Internet-name in said release. He’s a really nice guy who has helped me a lot and I truly appreciate his concern for me and his hard work for the project.
Honestly, where DO you find people so ignorantly passionate about something so minute as a fanlater contemplating her next move as realistically as she can? Hakuouki was something of a failure, but I took it as a learning experience.
Oh – and do try to avoid capslock. It doesn’t lend any credibility to… Whatever it was you hoped to accomplish.
(Sorry to people used to me being a bit kinder… People like this have been popping out of the woodworks lately for some reason and I’m a bit sick of it)
I think it’s a good learning experience for overeager fans too: don’t get your hopes up too much, and donate after proof of work/dedication/completion, and not before.
Okay, to my credit I only got like a total of five dollars in donations for a ton of work (besides translating the rather difficult prose, there was organisation and other tasks that ate up time). One person donated twice for the price of a cup of coffee. If they really wanted it back, I’d be more than willing to return it.
Your point is a good one though and I agree with you, to a point. The thing with donations is that they feel good when you get them. Even if it’s a dollar or two, they make you feel like your work is appreciated and this is nice for a translator or someone doing something in their spare time. Since it is spare time, for someone to use it working… Well, it’s nice to have a reminder that people are relying on you. This can be a nice motivator when most of what you’ve been reading are comments by people demanding you release NOW or causing other drama. At the same time, you should only donate when a translator has steam (which I did when I received my donations. I was putting in several hours a day) and should keep in mind that, with the nature of free-time based projects, there is a chance they will fizzle, lose steam, and not be completed. That’s just the nature of fanlation, unfortunately, and you should adjust your donations accordingly – only a dollar or two. Unless a person has a long history of successful works, don’t donate more than that and do keep in mind that things may not finish just because you did donate.
first, you said that the donation have nothing to do with the translation project.
now what? you used it as an execuse. -_-
and i really think ask for donation for your ‘own’ life it SUCK.
are you that poor so you ask for donation?
don’t you have parents? don’t you work?
you seem like a beggar to me if you ask donation for YOUR FUCKING LIFE.
and put that donation page on this translation site is REALLY mean you ask donation for this project.
Don’t have parents, actually. So yeah.
And I do work, which goes to paying rent, which it barely covers, and savings for books for school.
I have the feeling you have an overly privileged life and WAY too much time on your hands if you can sit there complaining over five dollars I’ve offered back to the person who donated.
i go to college and i work too.
what i complain here that you ask for DONATION and say that it have nothing to do with the project.but you put the donation page in this site.and pretend like it was for your life or for your translation blog (jeezz wordpress and forum-motion -___- ).and you not even make a move in one year.
just the freaking intro and you’re like “Heeeyy i’m translate it! Like me on Facebook! Praise me if you can! because i really love BEING PRAISE!”
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that! I really hope they keep the in-game Shinsengumi quizzes in! I’ll prolly shoot them my application and be all like “Hey! I totally have experience with this game! Hire me!” Money would be a nice incentive to actually translate complex Japanese lol.
This game will be in english soon. It’s official. Check internet for the information. At first, only psp’s game.
